This interactive map shows the incarceration rate by state compared to the rate of gun violence in each state. At the top of the visualization, there is a button that says "1/2", click on that to bring up both maps at the same time.



There is a direct correlation between these two factors. It could be inferred that gun control laws lead to more incarcerations because of regulations for minor gun infractions, or it could be inferred that certain states are more violent and therefore have more incarcerated citizens. Once again, Louisiana is at the top of the list for most gun violence and for most incarcerations.



It should also be noted that the "more violent" and "more incarcerated" states have (overall) more relaxed gun laws than other states.
