This map was built using ESRI's ArcGIS software, a free (for personal use) online tool for building multiple layer maps. The zoom is in the top left corner, the map legend is just above the zoom tool and you are able to change the base-map layer from the top right hand corner.

This map shows the total number (blue circle) of gun homicides in major US cities and compares that to the rate of gun homicides (image of gun) per 100,000 people. Click on either the gun or the blue circle to see the city name, the number of gun homicides and the rate of gun homicides.
