This map has been made with Google Maps to show locations of major mass shootings (schools, restaurants, places of worship, office buildings, etc) in the US since 1984 until present day. Click on any of the markers on the map to read the date, location, casualties, and weapons used by the gunmen.



The overall theme in these instances is that all of the guns, save for the guns used in the shooting at Columbine, were purchased legally and the purchasers passed a background check. What makes the shootings so horrible is that in most instances, the guns used had what are called "extended clips" or "high-capacity clips", were the gun is able to hold more ammunition that normally. These high capacity clips are not illegal in most states.
